Introduction
E-sports, for those of you who don’t know, is a school gaming club. Not many schools have E-sports, so that got me wondering why it was started here. So far, there are 75 people in the E-sports discord, and only a few even text in the general chat; some aren’t even in this school anymore. Anyway, for those who don’t know, E-sports describes the activity of competitive digital gaming. It basically functions as any other sport where you could win money.
What is E-sports?
In E-sports, people compete in video games and earn money or fame on the internet or in the gaming community. That is why 4 competitive games are popular in E-sports: Valorant, CSGO, Super Smash bros, and Overwatch. These four games have competitive teams that all train for upcoming tournaments. There are many famous people among the gaming community; you either have to be a great player or a well-known person with a reputation, people like TenZ(Valorant), Mathieu “ZywOo”(CSGO), MKLeo (Smash bros), and Fleta (Overwatch). They are each one of the top players in their games.
Top Players
Top players have the biggest reputation in the gaming community. Although most people don’t know them, they are still popular because of their reputation(just like high school!). For example, TenZ’s insane mechanical skill and flashy aim, ZywOo and his unparalleled skill and his consistent dominance, MKLeo with his adaptability with multiple characters and his compelling underdog story from poverty, and Fleta with incredible flexibility across many DPS heroes and his ability to carry losing teams. Their reputations have made them recognizable and inspirational to many gamers.
Coach Lopez
Coach Lopez, one of the coaches in E-sports, says that the E-sports in the early days weren’t doing so well. He was new to the school, and Ms. Molina thought that he would be a good sponsor. And, so when the idea was pitched to him, he immediately knew kids who wanted to be involved, and as a result, they revamped E-sports to what it is today. What got him into gaming when he was a kid was living in a place with unfriendly kids and a single-parent household, so his mom said that he could stay inside to play video games. One of the first games he had played was Prince of Persia, a Super Nintendo game, which developed into the later consoles like PS, PS2, Xbox, etc. On the other hand, he thinks a con of E-sports is juggling the real-life priorities and the priorities you have in-game. He had said, for example, when you get to a certain checkpoint in the game, you just have to complete it.
