Despite being in a school with uniforms, there is no doubt that HTLA students have a unique taste in their fashion. From maximalist accessories to everyday basics, HTLA has a diverse range of styles. Even though we do not always get to see the full potential of HTLA students, Casual Fridays are days when we see a large glimpse. On these days, we are able to see how each student expressed their individuality and personality with their style.
For instance, I interviewed a couple of students to get a look into their styles. I asked Pluto and Ethan which accessories they can’t leave the house without. Pluto stated that bangles and funky glasses are a staple, whereas Ethan stated that rings and other pieces of jewelry are a must-have. Moreover, I asked a group of students to summarize their style in three words. I got words like fun, experimental, street, baggy, vintage, and old-money. This wide range of words showed how varied and unique HTLA student fashion is.
Furthermore, to get deeper insight into student fashion, I asked who they think their style is most influenced by. Many named top celebrities like Lilly Rose Depp, David Beckham, and Future, while others even named some of the staff and other students at school. Common staff names included Mr. Wilkinson and Dr. Batti, who, like all students, express their personalities through their style. Students say that seeing different styles from their peers makes them open to taking inspiration and adding new pieces to their closet.
From fur coats to large boots, HTLA students say that getting to style themselves makes them more comfortable and confident. It allows them to express themselves in different ways and showcase their character. To see a glimpse of HTLA’s unique fashion, look at some of the photos below.
