Every year, students in California take a test called CAASPP, which stands for California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress. This test is taken by students all across the state. Its purpose is to see how well students are learning core subjects like English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. CAASPP scores help teachers, parents, and schools understand how students are doing and where they might need more help.

Students in grades 3-8 and 11 take the CAASPP test. The main parts of the test are the Smarter Balanced tests for ELA and Math. Some students also take the California Science Test, also known as CAST. 

This test is different from other state testing because it includes things like writing tasks and problem solving skills that relate to the real world. The results from these tests help teachers see where a student’s strengths and weaknesses are. Seeing these scores can also help teachers modify their teaching styles, lessons, and give extra support to students who may need it. 

The scores also help measure how well a school is doing overall. Schools partially depend on these scores to also gain more funding. Even though testing can feel stressful, CAASPP is meant to help students and schools grow. It plays an important role in California’s education system by helping students achieve success.
